Okay…this was perhaps one of the creepiest locations I have ever shot in. This shot was part of an editorial assignment I shot for BCBusiness Magazine’s Nov 2011 issue.
This is the only privately owned business of it’s kind in Canada, and caters to the alternative medicine industry for research purposes. And yes, there was a dead person in each of the steel containers…
Ps: look close at the top of the door and tell me what you see. Is it lens flare…or perhaps something else. Click on the image to see it enlarged :)
I normally don’t really do maternity shoots, but when a couple friends of mine who are expecting their first baby, came to me and asked if I would make an exception, I naturally agreed. It was a very tender and sweet experience…
This was a fun little job I did up in Prince George a little while back, with the great Friso Halbertsma from Elevator Strategy, Advertising & Design.
We had to fly up to Prince George for the day as we had to shoot one of Coastal Hotels employees for a campaign they are running, wherein they portray people working for the hotel chain, in the context of their personal passions.
Originally the plan was to shoot Butch outdoors at a great setting in his lime green muscle car. But clouds rolled in and rain arrived, making it impossible to follow the original plan and still make the return flight in time back to Vancouver a couple hours later. In other words…we were in a bit of a pickle, as rescheduling was not a real option.
So what do you do? The only thing you can in a situation like that…you improvise.
We squeezed the car through the front doors to the hotel lobby, with about an inch on each side. And without getting a scratch in the lime green finish, thanks to Butch’s skillful steering, rolled it into the center of the room. Set up lights. Got the shot. Packed up. Rolled it back out, by which time the weather was clearing (of course…). Jumped into the back of the lime green dodge, for some rapid transit to the airport with the roof down. And arrived to the airport just in time for the return flight…phew.
Latest personal work…
I am drawn to visual narratives with a sense of drama. Whether the drama be obvious as in this scene, or whether it be subtle and understated, is secondary. Images that tell a story simply just get’s my mojo going…
For this piece, I really just wanted to have some fun. And what could be more fun than a dramatic scene with a couple of medieval knights in action.
I was fortunate to cast a great couple of guys, who really were able to fill out the characters, and lucky to have access to enough medieval weapons and armory to defend a village.
The setting was created using part CGI and part photo illustration.
What a blast…

Now here was an interesting guy. Lloyd Myers. Gold prospector, expert hunter and the great grand son of the legendary Chief Red Cloud. This guy was the real deal…
His great grand father Chief Red Cloud orchestrated the most successful war against the United States ever fought by an Indian nation.

EFW - Season 3.
I remember a hike to Garibaldi lake a couple summers ago with my good friend Myriam Laroche, the founder and president of Vancouver Eco Fashion Week. Half way up the hike she mentioned to me that she had this vision of Vancouver becoming the center of sustainable fashion. She told me that she wanted to create a top quality, twice a year (spring-fall season) fashion event, that would go beyond just showcasing clothes on a runway, but which would also include seminars on sustainability and other relevant issues. And most importantly…help change the public perception about Eco/sustainable fashion, and show that it didn’t automatically equate to dreadlocks and granola bars.
Okay, I knew Myriam was a driven and energetic woman, but even for her, it seemed pretty ambitious…
But lo and behold. Two years later her and her great team just wrapped up the 3rd season and yet again, another immensely successful EFW event. And from the looks of it, it is not looking like they are about to slow down. Yup…that Myriam is a force to be reckoned with…
You have no idea how long I had to look for a guy with 6 arms for this editorial…
